EPIC’s Sustainable Green Initiatives
At EPIC, we put our commitment to sustainability into action through our "Sustainable Green Initiatives" program. Guided by the program, we set ambitious but achievable goals, and work continually to improve the sustainability of our existing properties and to incorporate the principles of sustainability into every aspect of our operation.
EPIC is a proud member of the Canada Green Building Council.
EPIC’s Green Initiatives
LEED Certification – EPIC participated in the Canadian Green Building Council’s pilot program for LEED – Existing Building certification. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the internationally recognized green building rating system.
Energy Efficiency and Reduction – EPIC is reducing the total energy used in our buildings by increasing operating efficiencies through investments in projects such as lighting retrofits and new high efficiency boiler and chiller replacements that reduce our carbon footprint and operating cost.
Water Conservation – We are reducing the amount of water used in our buildings by installing low flow urinals and toilets, by converting to drought resistant plants, and by installing water control management systems on our cooling towers and irrigation systems.
Waste Management and Recycling – We conduct annual waste audits and review our recycling procedures in order to maximize our waste diversion rate, with the ultimate goal of reducing the amount of waste generated from our buildings to zero. To date we are typically achieving diversion rates of 75-80%.
Green Cleaning – Using green cleaning products in our buildings minimizes our impact on the environment
Environmental Reviews – By conducting environmental reviews of our buildings and by procuring sustainable products, we are reducing our environmental impact while remaining compliant with government regulations.
Communication – We are committed to sharing information with tenants about sustainability best practices and our ongoing sustainable green initiatives. Our goal is to raise awareness and to build a foundation that will enable us to work with tenants towards a more sustainable future.
